NCLEX - Foley Catheter Procedure

Foley Catheter

1. Place the client supine with knees flexed
2. Open the sterile pack and maintain sterility
3. On the sterile pack, remove the water proof pad and placed it on the clients buttocks.
4. Put on the sterile gloves
5. Initiate the balloon of the catheter to check for leaks.
6. Lubricate the tip of the catheter.
7. cleanse the urinary meatus with anteseptic solution using a sterile forcep and cotton balls.
8. insert catheter. secure tubings on the bed and legs.
9. Wipe the urinary meatus with a cotton ball saturated with cleansing solution.

* The strategy to use to answer this kind of uestion is to picture yourself performing the procedure. First, prepare the client. Next, prepare the equiptment in the correct order using sterile technique. Open the sterile pack between the client's legs. Next, put on the sterile gloves. Inflate the balloon of the catheter to check for leaks. Lubricate the tip of the catheter.

Now the equiptment is ready.

Now, get the client ready for the insertion of the catheter. The last step from those provided is, wipe the urinary meatus with a cotton ball saturated with cleansing solution.
